Board of Directors

What began with home monitoring of newborns has now grown into a comprehensive portfolio for outpatient vital sign monitoring, cardiac function diagnostics, and telemonitoring—supported by around 70 dedicated colleagues and a strong network of international sales partners.

Our mission is clear: we combine clinical evidence, everyday design, and digital networking to create solutions that relieve the burden on caregivers and protect patients—across all age groups. On this website, we present the latest generation of our VitaGuard vital signs monitors as well as other GETEMED business areas.

Our vision guides us every day: With experience, passion, and creativity, we create modern medical devices for healthcare that improve quality of life and save lives every day.

Michael Scherf (Board Chairman)

Michael Scherf, born in 1965 in Berlin, began his career with GETEMED in 1992 as product manager after completing his electrical engineering studies at the Technical University in Dresden.

In 1998 he obtained a diploma in business management from the Free University of Berlin.

In 2000 he became a member of the board of directors and took over the chairmanship of the board in May 2010.

Robert Downes (Member of the Executive Board)

Robert Downes, born in 1963 in Dublin, Ireland, began his career in 1987 as a hardware developer at GeTeMed Gesellschaft für Technische Medizin mbH after completing his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

In the early years, he played a key role in the development of external pacemakers as well as the first generations of vital signs monitors (BabyGuard, CardioGuard, VitaGuard). Following the company’s re-establishment in 1992, development initially focused on the long-term ECG system CardioDay. In this context, he developed the first generations of the CardioMem long-term ECG digital recorders.

In 1996, he assumed leadership of the development department. In the following years, he was also involved in numerous research projects with external partners, several of which he coordinated.

In 1998, he played a leading role in establishing and implementing the company’s first quality management system in accordance with ISO 9001 / ISO 46001 — an area he continues to actively support to this day.

In 2002, he obtained a Master’s degree from Trinity College Dublin, specializing in fuzzy logic, as part of a part-time distance learning program.

Since April 2010, Robert Downes has been a member of the Executive Board of GETEMED Medizin- und Informationstechnik AG, where he is responsible for operations and finance. He remains particularly passionate about the ongoing development of the VitaGuard monitors and most recently contributed as Product Owner to the development and regulatory approval of the latest VitaGuard VG5 generation.
